![]() ![]() Can Ogre (or perhaps other opensource projects) import a Poser model, manage BVH files, apply morph targets, and offer me a powerful API where I can base my project? I thought that perhaps somebody in this forum could help me decide on what paths are available for me. I've to add that my project is _not_ about realtime graphics (well, except when doing mouse mocap, which could be performed with a lowpoly scene in order to achieve a good FPS rate, but for the final animation I don't need realtime, so I can live with the highpoly Poser models). So, I'm considering to use a 100% open-source solution, but I'm not sure if that's possible now, in 2005. And, in the case of DazStudio, the plugin SDK hasn't been released yet, so nobody knows its power-flexibility yet. However, Poser doesn't allow plugins to receive mouse events (and I'd need that for performing mouse mocap). So, the code I want to write is high-level, like a walking synthesizer, a facial expression studio with mouse motion capture, management of BVH animations with animation blending, and so on.Īt first glance, I thought it would be wise to use a software like Poser or DazStudio, and write my high-level stuff as a plug-in. I'm not planning to code low-level stuff like IK solvers, skeleton management, etc, because I'd need to invest much more time if I had to go so much lowlevel. The most important issue is that I want to write my own code for controlling the animation, but I'm talking about "high level" code. There's also "MakeHuman", but its development speed is slow, and it's not clear when it will become usable for real work, so I believe I'll choose already existing Poser models. I also found good human meshes with an open source license (the "open 3D project"), but, again, in Poser format. I found that the best parametric (ie: with morph targets) human meshes are designed for Poser, so I think I'll be using Poser content. I'm working in a personal project about realistic human animation. I arrived here thanks to the "PoserTools" addon, because I was searching for opensource code capable of accessing Poser files. I never heard about Ogre before, I'm 100% new to it. ![]()
